Objectives
01
eTracks, a not-for-profit Producer Responsibility Organization that works with leading tire manufacturers and service providers, wanted to create a sustainable tire management system in Ontario, Canada, by digitizing the end-to-end tire management process with a flexible new app.

App reengineering

In 2020, eTracks embarked on finding a partner that could help it completely overhaul its eSRP (Sustainable Recovery Platform) app, used by tire manufacturers to ensure they meet their legislative obligations. ELEKS was chosen thanks to our extensive product strategy consulting expertise.

New features

As well as improving transparency and streamlining manual processes and reporting, eTracks wanted to make the app easily adaptable and upgradable with new region-specific and niche-material features.

Solution
02
We developed a comprehensive solution that could optimize eTracks’ resource recovery processes and manage its recycling supply chain data.
Scope and vision
The key deliverable for us was to help eTracks’ internal team crystalize the eSRP’s project scope and product vision, which entailed creating an interactive visual concept and digging into the detail of the technical solution.
Product design
Our first port of call was a Product Design Phase, whereby the ELEKS team worked side by side with eTracks’ internal team to co-create the proposed system’s vision and roadmap.
Implementation
Once the scope and vision had been clarified, we moved on to helping eTracks develop the new eSRP, a cutting-edge web app that works on both desktop and mobile. Using a modular architecture, we ensured that eTracks would be able to implement changes and adaptations to the system as it grew in complexity or needed to be scaled to new locations or business uses.
New functions
Traceability and flexibility were crucial to eTracks' reengineering requirements. So, our experts enabled new transactional and validation processes that would help the client spot any issues with the end-to-end recycling process, such as scheduled pick-ups, deliveries, and processing.
Data Science
Our team of Data Scientists was brought on board to enhance the eSRP with AI and computer vision technologies, enabling the app to carry out functions including signature validation and optical character recognition. We also included photo validation to enhance the integrity and security of transactional information and to streamline the internal validation team’s processes.

"The team at ELEKS created exactly what we needed, providing exceptional expertise, professionalism, and project management throughout the process, testing, and launch. ELEKS succeeded in helping us improve our ability to trace the flow of recycled tires, while significantly reducing manual transactions and reporting."
Results
03
eTracks’ Sustainable Recovery Platform went live in January 2022, launching in approximately 6,500 Ontario tire collection sites to be adopted, initially, by around 150 users in provision and production.
With its enhanced functionality, the eSRP has streamlined and optimized the management of recyclable materials and aided in users meeting their regulatory requirements. Moreover, it’s helping to create a circular economy by improving the traceability of resource recovery data so that more waste can be diverted away from landfill.
